I've read the comics pages about Google Chrome which describe how Google team made the application from scratch to be able to support multi task and when you open each tab it is considered as a new application with its own memory space.
they added a feature is called task manager you can see how your tab reacting from the prospective of Memory, CPU and network consumption.
